The Ledges, Fitzgerald Park September 3, 2006
Our next investigation was conducted in Fitzgerald Park in Grand Ledge, Michigan along 'The Ledges' which were carved over time by the steady current of The Grand River. Over the years, the area had seen many different types of settlers and travelers. The earliest were Indian tribes led by the famous Chief Okemos who later called the area 'Big Rocks'. The area also attracted The Grand Ledge Spiritualist Camp Association in 1894  who built the large pavilion which is still there to this day.
Thousands of spiritualists continued to settle in the area until the turn of the century.

Time & Weather Conditions

Sunday, September 3, 2006   Approx.  3 PM until approx. 7 PM EST.

All weather condition information taken from Intellicast.com.

Intellicast's hourly observations were unavailable for Grand Ledge for this investigation.

 It was a clear day
in the 70's. There was no rain, and it was not humid.

The general consensus of the group was that it was a beautiful day, and we could not have picked a better day to visit the park. The park itself had it's fair share of people visiting that day, but it was not overly crowded.

Official Investigation Report

Basics:
In the past there was a lot of trading, and Native Americans in the area. We decided that it might be a good idea to bring some tobacco along with us. The idea was that it might be used as an offering to any spirits which may still be there. Maybe they'd be more inclined to make their presence known if we show our friendly intent. As far as we can tell, it was ineffective.

Results from EMF and temperature sweeps were also negative. There WAS actually a moment where we had some strong spikes on our 'Cell Sensor'. This was early on in the day. One of our investigators held the meter at about 5 feet in the air, and slowly moved the meter down to the ground level. As the meter got closer to the ground, the more it would beep and light up. It was obviously underground wiring.

In the same area, our thermometer also dropped to a startling
9°F. We did not FEEL that drop in temperature, however. We noticed this instrumental decrease in temperature before we discovered the underground lines. A nuclear blast sends out an electromagnetic pulse that shuts down all electrical and electronic devices for miles. Electromagnetic fields have the same properties on a MUCH smaller scale. Where there are electromagnetic fields, electronic equipment has been known to go a little haywire. The digital IR thermometer may have been reacting to the fields generated by the underground wires.

Video:
This was an outside location with no electricity available. No video was attempted.

Audio:
No discernible audio was collected from this investigation.

Photos:
We did collect a few still photos on this one.

Orbs:  The most common photos taken in paranormal investigation. (Click the image for a larger view.)

If you look to the right hand side of the image, you'll notice an orb. This image was chosen because of all the orbs collected here, this one had the most substance. It appears almost solid.

This is another orb picture. It is not quite as solid as the one above, but it has a larger size.

This last orb is very similar to the one above. There were many orb photos from this investigation. Most were small and scattered. This one, like the ones above stood out among them.

Investigators Personal Opinions

Consensus:
It was a beautiful day, and we all seemed to enjoy being there, as did many other people in the park that day. Too many distractions and too many people made it difficult to conduct a proper investigation. The barn area seemed as if it deserved a closer look. All in all, there is not enough evidence to claim that the place is haunted.

"I thought the investigation at the Ledges was interesting, I got a chance to meet everyone and it was a very good location in terms of the sites history. I think the amount of people traffic through the area while we were there impacted our investigation in the negative, but what can you do? It's a popular place to hike and picnic."
-Doc

"I really enjoyed our outing to the Ledges. There were a lot of people about, (I don't blame them, it was a beautiful day, and a lovely park!) so it was at times difficult to really investigate with so much living activity going on. I think another investigation would be needed for me to form a more solid opinion. Ideally, it would be nice to investigate at night when nobody's there, but as it's a public park, they do have rules about that sort of thing. I couldn't say at this time that I think it's haunted, but there is definitely a sense of history about the place. You can't help but to do some matrixing (seeing/creating faces) on some of the rocks and trees, and it's easy to imagine Native Americans and French fur traders in the area. Some of the trees are old, and gnarly, and have grown in very interesting ways to accommodate the surrounding terrain, and the rocks and ledges have changed shape and discolored and eroded with time. The scariest thing I saw there was the huge wolf spider! I would be curious to learn more history of the Theater. It's a big, old, red barn theater, (that is in need of repairs!) and I feel that it may be worth investigating in the future, even though I've not heard any stories about it yet."
-Red

"It seemed like a great place to hang out, play some tennis, do some fishing, and maybe even hold some team meetings. I was interested in paying closer attention to the barn area than we did, but unfortunately there wasn't enough time. The place was pretty 'alive' with people in the park. In my opinion, all audio collected was contaminated by numerous unknown voices from people in the area. Based solely on the evidence collected here, I see nothing that would support claims of a haunting."
-Bill
